Near Space is our featured example of marketplace development: an Australian platform that brings spare space and local demand together. Our co-founder Anis Setoodeh built it before ELORA DIGITAL opened. The product gives hosts a place to offer space and renters a way to discover and compare it.

A garage, driveway or storage area can be useful to someone nearby, but finding that person takes more than a classified advert. Renters need to understand the location, dimensions, access and suitability of a space. Hosts need a listing they can manage and a straightforward way to discuss a request.

Near Space brings those decisions into one marketplace, covering parking, garages, sheds, containers and other space types.

The Near Space website and its how-it-works guide describe two connected journeys:

  • For renters: search by location, narrow the options, compare listings and contact a host.
  • For hosts: describe the space, upload photos, set the details and respond to enquiries or booking requests.
  • For both: use on-platform messaging to discuss suitability, availability and access before proceeding.

The Melbourne space directory shows the location-led browsing experience, with map and list views and links to individual suburbs and space categories.

The web application uses Next.js, React and TypeScript, with Tailwind CSS for the interface. Leaflet supports the map experience. A NestJS API handles application behaviour, while PostgreSQL and Prisma provide the data layer.

That separation matters in a marketplace: the search experience, a host's listing and a conversation all need to refer to the same underlying space. The engineering work connects those parts into a usable product, with distinct journeys for the people offering space and the people looking for it.

Near Space demonstrates Anis's experience building a product with multiple user roles and connected workflows. Search, listings, messages and booking requests have to work together, across both desktop and mobile screens.
